This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

More than likely if you are a customer of Walgreens, you are aware of the failed negotiations between Walgreens and Express Script; its former pharmacy benefit manager. After nearly a year of unsuccessful negotiations, the contract between the two companies expired and as of January 1, 2012, Walgreens is no longer a part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network. Ugh.just when I was starting to feel better after the protracted dispute between the NBA and the Player’s Union!

This failed negotiation leaves many of Walgreen’s customers out in the cold including military members on Tricare. These customers most now find new pharmacies. I can’t imagine if my grandmother were forced to travel to another town to get her medicine. What a hassle for those people who, from what I’ve read, also are not seeing any reduction in costs for their prescriptions.

It’s terrible that Walgreens and Express Script were not able to come to some agreement. But at least Walgreens is being proactive.. Walgreens is offering to those affected a special discount on an annual membership to the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. For $10 a year, you can get a family membership that covers everyone (spouse, dependents younger than 22 — even pets!). Not married? Individuals can join for just $5. With their Prescription Savings Club, you’ll receive discount prices on prescriptions (8,000 brand name/generic). In addition to medications, the Savings Club also includes discounted flu shots, diabetic supplies, and more.

Something tells me this isn’t over so keep up on the latest by following Walgreens on Twitter and by “liking” Walgreens on Facebook!
