Got up early today and off to the another one of the kid’s lacrosse game with coffee in hand. I parked the car and set off to the field on this chilly Saturday morning. During halftime I saw an opportunity to run to the car to warm-up to enjoy a five-minute hiatus. Not a minute after feeling my toes again, I hear a crash at the back of my car. I jumped out not knowing what happened to see in front of me 3 preppy adults and one pint sized terror throwing little one. I would say the “mini me” was about three to four years old. As I jumped out of the car I was greeted by glares of relaxed annoyance as if I just vandalized their letter-sweater. The taller male declared nonchalantly that nothing happen and the child just picked up a pebble and through it at the car. He continued, “As you can see, no damage is done.” In clear annoyance BY THEM, I inspected the back of my car knowing what I just heard did not come from the pebble but more like a BOULDER. Sure enough, in seconds I see chipped paint scratches. The taller male piped in again saying the rock (what happened to pebble?) didn’t hit there. The father of the child jumped in and said, “Ohhhh well … I’m sorry!”. He can clearly see the paint chips on my car’s rear window showing this would be the rock/pebbles doing! I continue to look at the group baffled. Okay I get the kids will be kids but is anybody going to say anything to this child? For some reason I was expecting an,” OH MY GOSH SON WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!” OR “Sonny, apologize to this obviously wonderfully women for vandalizing her car and disturbing her five-minute of me time!” I GOT NOTHING just, “It’s ok little guy” and “No worries little buddy!” I still waited for more. The dad offered to pay for the minor touch up minimizing the incident as if I was frantic woman making a mountain out of a mole hill. Although, I said very little. I accepted his contact details and he left with daddy turning and saying, “Come on little buddy, sorry for Daddy’s delay.” WHATTTTTT!!! Isn’t this LITTLE BUDDY’S FAULT!!! URGH!!! After he left I noticed that Little Buddy also chipped my back window. So here’s the question of the day are we just throwing in the towel on disciplining our kids altogether? I do hope Little Buddy’s dad has a pen and paper ready at all times because I don’t think this is going to be the only time he’s gonna have to bail out his child. From my limited view, “Little Guy” did NOT LEARN ANYTHING! And my final message to Little Buddy, “NO THROWING ROCKS AT CARS!!!!” PS.. His mom stood quietly and said nothing. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better!
